Up cycled treasure troves and thank you Hazelgrove!

Happy New Year to you and Mwaka Mpya Mzuri. Hope you've had a restful break and a gentle start to the 2025? 

Our team of trusted tailors started back at last week, having had just over 3 week's holiday and Ruth our head tailor sent me a WhatsApp message saying, "Good morning - now we have resumed to work, we're thankful for this  beautiful day and thank you for for the long holiday -  you gave it to us, with our families".

And Bluebells School also started back last week.  It's always a busy time - the start to the new academic school year - with registration and fee paying. But the children will be happy to have two brand new shaded areas under which to sit (see photo of Mwana sitting there above!)  These were built in the holidays, using old wooden poles that used to 'hold up' one of the classroom blocks (picture below).  I love the upcycling that goes on - no waste here.

A few friends popped in during the holidays just to see the school whilst holidaying in Watamu - which we always love.  

There was a fabulous visit too, organised by another good friend of mine, Susie - that resulted in the pupils receiving beautiful new uniform dresses, this uniform style was being discontinued by Hazelgrove School in the UK.  Old for them - but completely and utterly new and wonderful for Bluebells School!  Thank you Susie and thank you Ed and Amanda and all concerned at Hazelgrove.  Someone's waste is another man's fortune!    

We will welcome two new volunteers in January and February - we love to see the magic they weave and the added value they give.
